KILIM TOURS
Our Kilim Tours are designed to immerse you in the world of the beautiful flat-woven kilim – you will learn about the wool, special natural dyes, motifs and their meanings, traditional weaving techniques and learn to make your own kilim. During a portion of the tour you will also stay with village families and experience traditional Turkish nomadic life, essentially unchanged for generations.

The Classic Kilim Tour is a 15-day full immersion into the world of kilim making. For the first 3 days you will stay in a traditional village near Yahyali in central Anatolia. Yahyali is famous throughout Turkey for beautifuldesigns and superb quality. You will stay with a Nomadic family so you may become involved in all aspects of the kilim process, including:
- how wool is hand-spun
- how wool is colored using traditional vegetable dyes
- how to weave a kilim
You will also learn about the different motifs used in weaving kilims and what they mean. You will take dinners with the family in the traditional manner – on a low table, Turkish-style. You will have first-hand experience of the traditional nomadic life, at the same time become well versed in the art of kilim making.
For the last 12 days of the tour you will stay in Goreme in Cappadocia – land of the fairy chimneys. You will stay in our restored cave house and have the opportunity to try your hand at weaving a kilim for yourself as well as take in other local traditions including learning to make delicious Turkish dishes, and a daily tour of the highlights of Cappadocia.
Express Kilim Tour lasts for 10 days and is a shorter version of Classic Tour. With the Express Tour, you will stay in Goreme and take a day trip to the Yahyali village to see the kilim making in progress as well as a daily tour of the must-see places in Cappadocia.
